The post office is under investigation for failing to deliver orders in specific cities, and the situation is worsening.

The Federal Prosecutor (MPF) initiated an investigation in response to a billion-dollar loss reported in 2024, focusing on undelivered orders by the Post Office in select Brazilian cities, particularly in Santa Catarina. The primary concern centers on Chapecó, with an assessment underway to determine the impact of the financial crisis on operations.

Orders are not fulfilled by posts.

The survey conducted by the MPF aims to identify any irregularities involving the non-delivery of mail and packages by the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company in Chapecó Municipality, as well as to investigate potential administrative or operational issues.

The Post Office has not made a statement yet. However, the Federal Prosecutor is closely monitoring the state’s operations due to the R$ 3.2 billion loss in 2024.

The government disclosed that the recorded “rombo” accounts for roughly half of the total damage incurred by the federal states last year. Moreover, the company’s track record of mismanagement, deficits, and declining service quality could also be a factor, as it has been involved in multiple corruption scandals over the years.

The president of the state, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, attributed the significant financial loss to the taxation on international purchases known as the “brightness rate” implemented by the Lula government, which had a direct impact on revenue.
