Sony anticipates a potential loss of around 100 billion yen (approximately R$ 3.5 billion) due to the new US tariffs. To counter this impact, the Japanese company is considering raising prices for customers and moving some production to the US. These plans were discussed in a recent investor teleconference.
Sony’s CFO, Lin Tao, mentioned that the company plans to transfer some of these tariffs to the end consumer. The PS5 is particularly affected as a significant portion of its production takes place in China, which is heavily impacted by US tariffs.
PS5 production may take place outside of China.
Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s CEO, mentioned the option of moving PlayStation 5 production to the United States. He suggested that manufacturing the console domestically could be an effective strategy to consider moving forward.

Other companies in the market have made changes too. For instance, Microsoft raised the price of the Xbox by as much as $100 in certain areas. Nintendo, on the other hand, decided to maintain the existing price for the time being as they prepare to release the Switch 2 next month.
