Apple has recently made a daring move in the automotive industry by introducing CarPlay Ultra, an enhanced version of the system linking iPhones to cars. The objective is to have the mobile device serve as the primary control center for all dashboard functions. However, a drawback is that it is compatible only with high-end vehicles such as the new Aston Martin.
What does CarPlay Ultra refer to?

CarPlay Ultra, introduced at WWDC 2022 as an advancement of CarPlay, seamlessly connects the iPhone to a car’s digital displays and operations, going beyond just a multimedia center screen.
It implies complete control over the car’s cabin, including various features like the speedometer, air conditioning, navigation modes, radio, and visual interface. Rather than just Waze, the system will showcase the car’s entire dashboard with Apple’s design, interactive widgets, and personalized customization from each manufacturer.

Navigation can be controlled using physical buttons, voice commands through Siri, or directly on the touch screen. To function, you must have an iPhone 12 or a higher model with at least the iOS 18.5 operating system.
When and where can it be found?

The new cars from Aston Martin will be officially introduced in May 2025 in the United States and Canada. Other existing models from the brand will also be upgraded in the following weeks.
Porsche is expected to implement the system soon, following the confirmed interest from brands such as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, although no specific integration start dates have been provided yet.

It may seem unbelievable, but it’s only accessible to those who have the means.
CarPlay Ultra’s proposal is contemporary and undoubtedly convenient, transforming the car interface to resemble that of an iPhone for user familiarity. However, Apple continues to position it as a luxury offering, accessible only to those who can afford high-end vehicles costing hundreds of thousands of reais.
Will the Brazilian car eventually reach the mainstream market? It’s uncertain, especially given Apple’s track record of gradual updates and emphasis on high-end products. It might be best not to get too optimistic just yet.
You won’t have to wait long for CarPlay Ultra to be available in your Goal, Argo, HB20, or Corolla.
